In a quiet moment, over some eggnog, Phillip decides that his grandson has moped quite sufficiently on a certain subject, and tells Scott the story of Wiley Post, aviation pioneer. It's a very pointed story with a great deal of relevance to Scott's situation.

Born to fly. )

Forge has a proposal for Scott regarding a possible prothesis. Scott is uncertain, but willing to listen.

Did you just throw a ball at my head? )

Scott's bandages are removed, and while this also leads to some amusing byplay on the subject of potential Halloween costumes between him and Jean, it also makes something else a little more real for Scott.

I can still see. I have control... well, will be getting control over my blasts for the first time in my life. And yet I can't stop sneaking down to the hangar to stare at the 'Bird. )

The Badness of The Wizard of Oz + Pain Pills, The Sequel: Why shooting at the Munchkin running on the wall and about to pounce on Jean's head is perhaps something better left until you're awake and realize that it's not actually there.

It was a little hard to miss the rather large new and surprising window between their bedroom and the main room. )

Jean returns to the suite to find Scott at the mercy of a scary combination of pain pills and the Wizard of Oz.

Have you ever considered pigtails? )

Scott heads down to Jean's office to talk her into lunch. He's a very bad convalescent, as if we didn't know this already.

I walked into the wall. )

Scott has a little accident. Fortunately, the only thing in the way is a poor, innocent wall. Cain arrives to survey the damage and decides that Scott needs some practice. Outside.

Lemme guess, you were just cleaning it and it went off? )

Backdated to Wednesday afternoon. Terry finds a slightly unsteady Scott trying to sneak down into his office, and redirects him back to his suite with a promise of distraction. One eye or not, Scott can see that there's something going on with her, but can't get her to talk about it.

'Did Doctor Grey say you could be working?' '...she didn't say I couldn't.' )

Scott and Jean arrive home, back to their very own suite. And Jean locks the door.

Welcome home, love. )

As expected, Jean scolds Scott for using the laptop, they talk about other things and Scott gets to have a little bit of a breakdown. The brave front only goes so far.

You know what's not a great thing when you're worried about eyestrain? Computers. )

Alex has something of a surprise for Scott. His brother sees right through it, of course. Grandparents don't generally devote a whole plane to just flying down a plate of cookies, even if they do own their own air service.

They're here, aren't they? )

Scott is wibbly about his eyes. Jean tells him not to be. Then he gets distracted by a pair of very green eyes.

Calm. He had to stay calm. )

After the events with Scott, Jean goes looking for Moira to discuss what's going on. They've come to the same conclusion, it would seem, about what they think is may be happening with Scott.

Well, McDonnell said 'recalcitrant' but I think he meant cranky. )

Sometime after Moira takes Jean off to get something to eat, one of the nurses arrives to change Scott's bandages. She makes a small mistake. The shocking thing is that Scott doesn't leave a hole in the ceiling - until he stops to think that he should be.

The ceiling was white. )

Several hours later, the medical types have decided that bandaging Scott's good eye is no longer necessary. Scott is not at all happy with this decision, and is refusing to open his eye, lack of bandages or not. It's Moira's turn to tackle him. (No, not literally.) Scott finds out that no, the incident that morning wasn't a fluke.

I want my glasses. Please? )

Moira come to Seattle to check on Scott, and Jean. Jean is awake, so she gets taken care of first. It's nice to know that there's always going to be someone there when you just need to cry.

For some reason, the nurses tend to avoid me )

The morphine takes a bit too long to kick in, and Jean uses the moment of lucidity to get an answer.

Hated the bed. He very definitely hated the bed )

At the hospital in Seattle, Scott wakes up after his surgery, and Jean tells him where he is and what happened.

... I'm hurt? )
