X-Force members in Munich approach the complex that is supposed to hold Remy.
The location was cunningly hidden - a former reservoir that had long been cut off from the rest of the system, and secretly reclaimed under a small building development. The main entrance was hidden at the bottom of an underground car park, but it was heavily guarded. However, the plans that the mysterious SYN had sent them were detailed enough for them to identify another entrance. The power and water lines into the complex had a set of service tunnels clustered around them, which were only locked. The old sewer tunnels adjacent to them had been long blocked up and forgotten. But mutant powers made a quick new access way into the sewer, and the unguarded locks were only a matter of time to breach. Time which, according to some members of the small group, was already ticking by too quickly.
"Hurry, hurry," Ororo urged as Jubilee bent over the old and rusted grates. "This is taking too long." Jubilee bit back her immediate retort, reminding herself that Ororo was under stress, more so because Remy was her lover as well as a teammate.
"We'll get there, dude. If I break through without dealin' with the security first we're gonna be covered in goons." Doug's task was ensuring that there was no electronic surveillance or security covering their entrance point while Jubilee dealt with the locks. SYN's information had indicated there was none, and the mysterious person had proved their information was good before, but blind trust of a person they had no real acquaintance with was an easy way to end up in the same situation they were trying to get Remy out of.
"Initial sweep is clear," he reported. "Nothing that I can spot." Which didn't preclude the possibility of something hidden so cunningly even he couldn't find it, but that was always a possibility. None of them were perfect.
Emma let her mind roam out in front of her, taking the opportunity to ignore the stench that rose around them. "There's no-one nearby," she said. "Not within the nearest hundred metres or so." She switched to telepathy, touched the minds immediately around her. #Switchboard is on, if stealth is required. And I am burning these clothes as soon as we are finished here.#
#Got it# Jubilee replied, pushing the gate wide as she stood and walked forward into the tunnel beyond. #It's a clear run from here into the complex.#
Wanda gave Jubilee a sour look at the mental comment - one should not invite trouble if one did not have to. She gestured for the others to move ahead of her so she could close the gate behind them. The doors would look closed and hopefully locked to anyone who might wander by, though further investigation would prove that they were not. #I plan on burning down something this evening, that is for sure,# she replied, the group moving cautiously down the tunnel.
The sewers were tall enough to stand in, but dark and dank. The bricks had swelled with age and water, dripping onto the concrete below and forming puddles rimmed with scum and algae. Ororo felt the familiar sensation of panic creep in at their dark, enclosed surroundings, her very skin itching with discomfort in the stale air. Despite the racing of her heart she tried to sound confident and calm as she spoke into the link. #Another two hundred meters and then we part ways. Assuming this is not a trap you should get your chance very soon.#
Doug could have made an idle comment about paranoia, but a healthy dose of paranoia kept them all alive. And given the objective of the mission, and the fact that they had been set up so thoroughly previously, it was entirely warranted. As they made their way down the sewer, he kept the fingers of one hand trailing against the wall, seeking anything out of place with all of his senses, and flicking his eyes to take in each of his teammates occasionally. He stayed quiet over the mental link, knowing himself well enough to know that he had nothing to offer but nervous chatter for the time being.
#Well, ladies and gentlemen, it's been a pleasure,# Emma sent down the link as they reached the fork in the tunnel. #If you need to contact us, please don't feel the need to shout loudly. Softly will do just fine.#
